Catholic High of Pointe Coupee girls basketball coach Joe Neal won his 200thgame as a coach on Wednesday, Jan. 12, in the Hornets’ 81-20 win over Mentorship Academy.

“Shoutout to all of my current and former players for carrying me this far,” Neal said in a social media post marking the achievement.

“You are the ones (who) score and defend, I’m just the lucky guy to be able to share these moments with you every day,” he said.

The Hornets led 43-14 at the half with only 10 players able to play.

COVID-19 exposure forced eight players into quarantine, limiting the available players for the third straight game.

“Every eligible player scored tonight,” Neal said.

Jenna LaCour had a career high 21 points to go with 10 rebounds, while Alayna Knight had 12 points, including three 3-point field goals.

Ashlyn Landry and Lilli St. Germain each had 10 points, while Landry added 9 rebounds and St. Germain had 3 steals and 2 blocked shots.

“I also have to thank my PaWade. He talked to me or mom after every game and apparently kept track of my wins,” Neal said.

“He never told me until this summer,” before he passed away, the coach said. “! I love you and miss you. Number 200 was for you.”

Catholic-PC (12-7) travels to Baton Rouge on Friday to play St. Joseph’s Academy with a junior varsity/varsity set that starts at 5 p.m.
