Peggy “Granny” Blackwell Jewell

A loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Peggy passed away on Friday, July 23, 2021 at 12:36 p.m. at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center in Baton Rouge, at the age of 85. She was a native of Minden, La. and a longtime resident of Maringouin. She was a 1955 graduate of Denham Springs High School. Peggy was a retired U.S. Postal employee after serving for 34 years. Visitation was at Grosse Tete Baptist Church, 18285 LA Highway 77, Grosse Tete, on Tuesday, July 27th, from 9:00 a.m. until religious service at 11:00 a.m., conducted by Rev. Mark Robinson. Burial followed in Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church Cemetery in Maringouin. Peggy is survived by her three sons, Duane Jewell and wife Sherry, Dan Jewell and wife Colette, Matt Jewell and wife Kay; nine grandchildren, Lucas (Katie), Mason, Holden (Christie), Austin, Clay (Tayler), Colin (Ashley), and Cade Jewell, Galen (Brian) Graffia, Tana (Brandon) Jewell; great-grandchildren, Brianna, Brooklyn and Oliva Graffia, Baylin Crochet, Carter and Andrew Jewell, Dakota Jane and Baby Cullen Jewell. Peggy was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, Joseph L. Jewell Jr.; son, Joseph Lubin Jewell III; brother, James Blackwell. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the charity of your choice. The family would like to thank, her nephews, Dr. David Jewell, Harvey Best and Edwin Jewell Jr., her niece, Belinda VanHorn and Rev. Mark Robinson for their compassion and caring over the years.
