Shirley Mae Brooks Melancon passed away on Wednesday, February 22, 2023, at the age of 97. She was a native of Coon, LA, and a resident of Baton Rouge, LA. Shirley was a member of University Baptist Church for 65 years. But above all, she gave of herself endlessly to her family. She was a fantastic cook and one of her greatest joys was family gatherings around the table. Shirley is survived by her daughter, Sandra “Tootie” Guy (Randy); grandchildren, Corey Melancon (Storie), Boyd Guy (Tara), Ella Claire Guy, Merrit Melancon (Diana), and Chase Guy (Erin); great-grandchildren, Macen and Lily Melancon, Sara Claire and Alyson Guy, Judah and Remy Sharpton, and Aayla Melancon; siblings, James Brooks (Sarah) and John Brooks; and a host of other family members. She is preceded in death by her loving husband of 74 years, Raymond Bernie Melancon; her son, Randall Ray Melancon; parents, Oscar and Elmira Bergeron Brooks; and siblings, Henry 'H.T.' Brooks and Wilburn Brooks. Visitation was held at Greenoaks Funeral Home, 9595 Florida Blvd., Baton Rouge, LA, on Wednesday, March 1, 2023, from 9:00 a.m. until the time of funeral services at 11:00 a.m. Burial took place at LA National Cemetery where she will be laid to rest next to her husband.
